PM: Went out with Andy F from club, we did first mile easy warm up then picked it up and did 8 miles at fast tempo pace before doing easy last mile cool down. Ave of tempo miles was 6.34 m/m, wouldn’t have been able to keep that pace going if I was one my own!! Especially up Sandgate Hill and Wear Bay Road!!

PM: Distance: 10 miles      Time: 01:08:52     Ave Pace: 6.34 m/m of tempo miles

Wednesday 19/12/12
AM: Easy run 1.5 laps of Lyminge - feeling very tired
PM:  Longer run again tonight but this week it was after a tough tempo 8 miler yesterday. So didn’t worry about pace and just ran how I felt without looking at watch. Just as I went out of the door it began to rain slightly but never got any worse. Really feeling it tonight and felt exhausted towards end of run!

Friday 21/12/12
PM: Long run with Tim this afternoon, did our usual Monday night 10 miles but extended a further 2.5 miles the other side of Hythe along the canal bank and back. Good pace and last 7 miles were about 1 min 10 secs faster than first 7 miles and this included going up Sandgate Hill!!  At times was feeling very tired but running with someone helps to keep the pace up rather than slowing.

PM: Distance:  15 miles      Time: 01:54:24     Ave Pace: 7.38 m/m

Saturday 22/12/12
AM: Club Cross Country Training this morning at Evegate Mill, but absolutely pouring down with rain and only 4 of us turned up!! Warm up course so waterlogged and running ankle deep in water at times. Due to long run yesterday only ran efforts at an easy pace behind the others. But got a good six miles in.

PM:  Two laps of Lyminge, still raining but had eased off a bit and so was not too bad. Again run at an easy pace

AM: Distance:  6 miles      Time: 01:11:10     Ave Pace: 11.53 m/m
PM: Distance:  6 miles      Time: 00:52:01     Ave Pace: 8.40 m/m

Sunday 23/12/12
No long run today as managed to get it done with Tim on Friday, so decided to try and run with a little pace, as a few on my runs have been at an easy pace this week.  Went out at a good pace right from the start and was thinking if I could hold this for about 6 miles, then if needs be I would then drop off and do next 5 a bit easier. However managed to keep the pace up all the way round, the 2 slower miles were two big hills, so not worried about them. The weather was dry thank goodness after yesterday and very mild, had to take my gloves off after a couple of miles. Very pleased with pace of run after another heavy week.

PM: Distance: 11 miles      Time: 01:16:35     Ave Pace: 6.57 m/m

Wednesday 12/12/12
AM: Easy run 1 lap of Lyminge + a mile, very slow as lot of ice about.
PM:  Decided to drive down to Seabrook and do a run along the canal bank as all
the country lanes were very slippery due to the ice. With the canal path
being gravelly there would be a little more traction!!  Very cold again as I set
off from Seabrook towards West Hythe, but sheltered a little from wind. 6.5
miles was about a mile beyond the far end of Port Lympne Animal Park
where I just turned and came back. It was getting dark by now but could just
make the path out, feeling quite tired by the time I was getting back to Hythe
town with still a couple of miles to go but managed to slog on!!

Saturday 15/12/12
Kent Vets Champs Tunbridge Wells. Very wet and muddy underfoot.  Got about 4 miles in as a warm up including drills and strides.  Probably went off too hard in first mile and was in lead for first half lap, then slowed due to legs feeling very heavy due to high milage, as slipped back to 12th place. However managed to rally a bit on the last lap and was able to get two places back!! So finished 10th.
Did 1 mile cool down

PM: Distance: 10 miles      Race Time: 00:35:28     Ave Race Pace: 7.09 m/m

Sunday 16/12/12
Woke up and felt exhausted, hips feeling stiff and felt tired from Club Christmas party the night before. Had to call off morning run with Tim and Angela and decided to go out later in the day.  Finally got out at about 4:30pm and dragged my way round 18 miles, did two laps of the Folkestone 9 and got gradually slower and slower as run progressed!! About 10 mins slower than last week!!

PM: Distance: 18 miles      Time: 02:26:13     Ave Pace: 8.41 m/m

Another good high milage week, due to cold icy conditions didn't push pace as very slippery, however at this stage speed work not so important. Had to compromise race a little as did not ease off and trained through.

SEAA Vets Champs Claybury Essex. Better weather, sunny & mild but very wet and muddy underfoot.  Got about 4 miles in as a warm up including drills and strides.  Probably went off to hard in first mile as slowed in second and found achievable pace. Legs felt heavy after hard week training and I didn’t ease off for this race at all.  Finished 26th/60 fairly pleased but felt could have gone a lot better on fresher legs. Ave pace on the mud was 6.29 m/m

Sunday 9/12/12
Woke up and felt exhausted, no way I could run this morning so decided to leave it and go out in the afternoon at about 3.00pm. After a hard week I knew there would be no pace on the run so just went out and did it without looking at the watch.  After about 6 miles I was thinking “how am I going to do another 12” but put head down and pushed on and finally getting there!!
Well 1st week done only 19 to go!! Seems a long time but it will quickly zip round.

PM: Distance: 18 miles      Time: 02:25:54     Ave Pace: 8.06 m/m

Good first week of marathon training, now need to get consistent high milage, as I feel it gives the legs added strength to be able to hold the pace when running a marathon.
